Ram volleyball team ends regular season with win over Perry

The Greene County varsity volleyball team finished the regular season with a win over Perry Monday in three games. Scores were 25-12, 29-27, 25-15.

Alison Gallagher was 21 of 22 serving with five aces. Hannah Promes was 17 of 18 with three aces and Katelyn Hagen was 13 of 13 with one ace.

 Nadia Fisher had 13 kills, and Megan Durbin and Kenna Marquardt both had four kills. Promes had 22 assists and 12 digs, while Gallagher had 16 digs.

 “Ending a regular season with a win is always best,” coach Donna Carhill said. “We played well as a team and held on in the second game to win this match in three games.”

 The Rams played against larger schools in the Johnston tournament Saturday. The Rams won just one game at the tournament, the middle game against Marshalltown. Scores for the day were Dowling Catholic 7-21, 14-21; Marshalltown 5-21, 24-22, 12-15; Pleasant Valley 8-21, 9-21; and Bondurant-Farrar 6-25, 13-25.

 “This is a tough tournament and the level of play is high. We choose to play in this tournament at the end of our season to prepare us for regionals. It’s gratifying to know that we can compete with some of these teams,” Carhill said.  “In our match against Marshalltown we held our own, taking the second game, and pushing the 3rd to a 12-15 final.”

Marquardt was 22 of 25 with four aces at the service line and Promes was 19 of 19 with two aces.

 Nadia Fisher had 21 kills and 22 digs. and Durbin had seven kills. Promes had 35 assists and Gallagher had 19 digs.

 The Rams begin post-season play in Class 3A Region 2 playing in Carroll against the Number 1 ranked Kuemper Knights. The Knights are 25-2 on the season while the Rams are 15-20.
